About The Position

Performs work responsible for technical duties in the operation and daily maintenance of the Transfer Station for the City of Cape Girardeau.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency required.
  • Must comply with Missouri CDL requirements and possess and maintain a valid Class “B” or better CDL with air brake endorsement.
  • Before final appointment, successful applicant will be required to successfully complete a drug test, background investigation and pre-employment physical.

Responsibilities

  • Loads trash and recycling materials into open top trailers using a hi-lift or backhoe.
  • Prepares loaded trailers for transport to the landfill or recycling center, which consists of tarping, and weighing the trailers using yard trucks and pulling empty trailers into the pit.
  • Responsible for transporting multiple 20-yard containers consisting of single stream and loaded cardboard using the roll-off truck. The yard containers are moved between the recycling center and transfer station to be both emptied and replaced.
  • Responsible for loading special waste from Republic Services into designated trailers specifically assigned for the waste using equipment such as the hi-lift.
  • Conducts daily inspections of all transfer station equipment including but not limited to hi-lifts, backhoes, yard trucks, roll-off trucks, forklifts and pickup trucks to identify maintenance needs and complete preventative maintenance based upon those inspections.
  • Recovers Freon from appliances using a Freon Recovery Machine.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
