About The Position

Through the Department of War (DoW) SkillBridge Program, GDIT offers transitioning service members the opportunity to gain structured, hands-on professional experience as a Training Specialist – Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) Trainer Fellow supporting the Navy’s Advanced Warfare Training (AWT) program. This Fellowship is designed for experienced ASW professionals preparing to transition into a civilian Training Specialist role. The Fellow will work under the supervision of certified ASW Trainers to further develop instructional competencies aligned with the full-time ASW Trainer position supporting Surface Combat Systems Training Command (SCSTC). HOW A TRAINING SPECIALIST – ASW TRAINER FELLOW WILL MAKE AN IMPACT: Under the guidance of qualified ASW Trainers and training leadership, the Fellow will: Support the development, organization, and delivery of training and educational programs for Navy personnel participating in Advanced Warfare Training (AWT). Assist in conducting traditional classroom instruction and technical/tactical laboratory training, supporting instruction related to the operation and employment of SQQ-89A(v)15 ASW sensors and weapons systems. Collaborate as a team member to help identify learning gaps and reinforce technical and tactical proficiency for SQQ-89A(v)15 technicians and Combat Information Center (CIC) watch standers. Provide supervised subject matter input in support of curriculum maintenance and instructional material updates for SCSTC ASW courses. Observe and support dynamic assessment processes, including monitoring student compliance with operational procedures and assisting in performance documentation under instructor oversight. Support training activities in both classroom and shipboard/waterfront environments, consistent with customer and program requirements. This Fellowship builds upon prior operational expertise and provides structured exposure to the instructional methodologies, assessment practices, and curriculum standards required of the full-time ASW Trainer role.

Requirements

  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in the operation and maintenance of AN/SQQ-89 Undersea Warfare System (UWS) Combat Systems.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience as an Instructor in a Navy Training Environment, including delivery of technical instruction, presentation skills, and student engagement.
  • Operational expertise in the technical and tactical employment of ASW sensors and weapons systems.
  • Strong communication and instructional support skills.
  • Ability to function effectively within a multi-instructor training team supporting mission-critical Navy training operations.
  • Ability to support extended periods of instruction and active participation in classroom and shipboard settings.
  • U.S. Citizenship Required.
  • Active SECRET Security Clearance Required.
  • Fellowship duration and participation aligned with DoW SkillBridge program guidelines and customer site requirements.
  • Has served at least 180 days on active duty
  • Can participate within the last 6 months of separation or retirement
  • Will receive an honorable discharge
  • Has taken any service TAP/TGPS
  • Has attended or participated in an ethics brief within the last 12 months
  • Received Unit Commander (first O-4/Field Grade commander in chain of command) written authorization and approval to participate in DoW SkillBridge Program prior to start of the fellowship.

  • Prior SCSTC, ATRC, or TACTRAGRU instructor experience strongly preferred.
