About The Position

This position involves applying advanced aircrew training device knowledge and experience during the installation and maintenance of the F-16 Aircrew Training Device (ATD). The technician must be capable of solving unusually complex system problems that typically cannot be resolved solely by maintenance manuals. Significant travel, including potential overseas locations, is required to support ATD installations. Key responsibilities include operating and maintaining the F-16 ATD and peripheral equipment, applying comprehensive technical knowledge to complex problems, and supporting the development, preparation, movement, shipping, uncrating, and installation of ATDs. The role also encompasses conducting ATD set-up, operational testing, quality control inspections, and maintaining detailed documentation of all installation and maintenance activities. The technician will monitor and track the repair status of inoperative equipment using a logistics management database, document maintenance actions, and support material control functions such as issuing, returning, and inventory adjustments. Collaboration with Engineering on non-standard situations is expected. The role requires interpreting advanced technical data, working with various computer operating systems, and potentially taking lead responsibilities for ATD planning, movement, and regeneration at remote sites. Scheduled preventative maintenance and unscheduled maintenance actions are routine, as is diagnosing malfunctions of computers and associated equipment, performing operability/readiness tests, repair, and systems interface/fault isolation. The technician will apply fundamental troubleshooting procedures, interpret mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic schematics, and manage inventory through the Electronic Data Management System (EDMS), including identifying failure-prone or obsolete parts. Maintaining good customer relations, ensuring compliance with health, safety, security, and local base procedures, and implementing basic simulator modifications are also part of the job.

Requirements

  • Technical College Degree with five (5) years’ experience in maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and operation of full flight simulators, or seven (7) years’ experience with no degree.
  • Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within the Simulator Technician field.
  • Must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily.
  • Must be highly proficient in the use and operation of test equipment to perform pre- and post-operational test on installed equipment to perform preventive maintenance using preventative maintenance cards and instruction books.
  • Must possess advanced skills necessary to diagnose and isolate malfunctions in electronic systems; align, adjust and calibrate installed training devices; interpret mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronic schematics and prepare simplified versions.
  • Must possess advanced skills to perform calibrations, adjustments and tests on electronic equipment; analyze operation, verify discrepancies, isolate malfunctions and replace defective components used in installed devices.
  • Must possess and maintain advanced proficiency in the use of diagnostic programs, interpretation of results, and the use of program listings to isolate faults.
  • Must be adept in the use of test equipment, repair of micro/miniature printed circuit boards, electro/mechanical systems and devices to include projection display systems, computer controlled motion and electronic control loading systems and computer generated sound systems.
  • Must be highly proficient in the use of diagnostic programs, interpretation of results and use of program listings to isolate faults.
  • Must be skilled at use and operation of test equipment, including “O” scopes, frequency counters, volt/ohm meters and range calibration set.
  • Must be able to perform routine preventive maintenance using maintenance requirement cards and instructional manuals; perform daily system readiness test, pre-operational and post-operational checkouts.
  • Must exhibit high performance and capability to work in a team environment.
  • Must be able to work independently, with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to drive a forklift, man-lift, K-loader, or other material handling support equipment as required if trained and certified to operate.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Must be able to effectively deliver oral presentations to management and customers.
  • Must be able to work overtime as required.
  • Must be willing to work any shift or day of the week as required.
  • Must be eligible for DoD Personnel Security Clearance.
  • Must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex word and technical documents/diagrams.
  • Will be required to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries and complaints.
  • Must be able to generate effective oral and written presentations and proposals on complex subjects.
  • Must be able to calculate figures and amounts, prices, commissions, and percentages, and to draw and interpret graphs.
  • Must be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics and drawings.
  • Must be able to lift at least 40 pounds over head.
  • Must be able to walk and/or climb stairs and ladder into a simulator or airplane cockpit.
  • Must be able to stoop, bend, and crawl on top or under the device.
  • Must be able to detect odors or hear noises, bangs, etc., or other sounds to detect problems or flaws in the functioning of simulators and its surrounding environment.
  • Must be able to distinguish colors.
  • Domestic and international travel as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Aircraft maintenance work experience within an Aerospace Repair shop environment and an Airframe & Propulsion license.
  • Related skill areas should include technical writing and presentation skills.
  • An ability to interpret complex customer requirements and attitudes from verbal, non-verbal, and written communication is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts quality control inspections and inspect maintenance work performed.
  • Maintains required documentation of installation and maintenance activities.
  • Monitors and tracks the repair status of inoperative equipment and document maintenance activities utilizing the logistics management data base system.
  • Documents maintenance activities including work order generation, updates, and completing post installation or repair action documentation.
  • Supports material control issuing, returning, and inventory adjustments, insuring inventory records are up to date and accurate, and other material control duties as assigned.
  • Works with Engineering in regards to non-standard situations.
  • Uses knowledge of simulator and aircraft systems to interpret advanced technical data.
  • Interprets and works with computer systems utilizing various and multiple operating systems.
  • Willing to accept lead responsibilities for planning, movement, regeneration of ATDs as remote locations.
  • Conduct scheduled preventative maintenance and unscheduled maintenance actions.
  • Diagnoses malfunctions of computers and associated equipment, and performs operability/readiness tests and repair.
  • Performs systems interface/fault isolation.

  • Conduct inventory inspections, update and record stock levels, and report the status, excess inventory, and obsolescence issues.
  • Monitor and report failure-prone or obsolete parts in-accordance-with program processes.
  • Maintain inventory of incoming parts/supplies and verify receipt of items on requisition or invoice.
  • Receives, stores, and issue equipment, parts, or supplies, and maintains inventory.
  • Stores parts/supplies, package & ship items to requesting activities.
  • Utilize program EDMS to support inventory levels, off-site repairs, transactions, and calibration requirements.
  • Mark applicable incoming parts (IUID or Tags).
  • Maintains good relations with customers and ensures information flows within technical organization.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, security, and local base procedures.
  • Implements basic modifications to existing simulators.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
