About The Position

Assist in the review and analysis of data for maternal and child health, reproductive health, school health, oral health, adolescent health, and sexual violence prevention, in addition to other health related data and information that impact policy and program development, including the compilation of related data-based and informed reports, fact sheets, white papers and other products in a timely and accurate manner for distribution to internal and external customers, as needed and/or requested. Perform and provide research, data analysis, and evaluation using various statistical and data managing software packages, such as SPSS, SAS, Stata, R, SQL, and MS Access to collect and analyze data pertaining to maternal and child health and various other Bureau of Family Health Services programs and projects identified above, as well as other health related issues. This includes maintaining knowledge of relevant data sets and availability, data tools/software and trends. Initiate and carry out statistical analysis, including formative and summative evaluations of maternal and child health and various other programs and activities within the Bureau of Family Health Services, along with other health related data and activities, in addition to providing an ongoing assessment of data capacity and quality related to linkages, access and use of key and relevant data sets. Provide research and statistical analysis support, training, and technical assistance to programs within the Bureau of Family Health Services, including interpreting and communicating same to Bureau and Division of Community Health Promotion staff, local Departments of Health, and external partners. Conduct epidemiologic research to identify determinants and risk factors for maternal and child health and other health related outcomes in Florida. Perform related work, as required.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of research methods for compiling, organizing and analyzing data; skill using a variety of statistical and data management software packages; ability to organize data into logical format for presentation in reports, documents and other written materials; ability to conduct fact-finding research; ability to analyze and interpret data and to explain same to in-house staff, staff in the local DOHs and other external partners in a manner that is clear and understandable to non-experts; ability to utilize problem-solving techniques; ability to design and conduct training programs; skill in presenting information in a clear and understandable manner; ability to work with minimal direction and oversight; ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments; and the ability to communicate well with others and convey information effectively, both verbally and in writing, as indicated by the needs of the audience.
  • At least 2 to 3 years of professional experience designing, conducting, and evaluating epidemiologic studies.
  • At least 2 to 3 years of experience creating and maintaining databases, performing data analysis and visualization, and scientific report writing.
  • At least 2 to 3 years of experience using Microsoft Excel and Stata, SAS, SPSS, R, and/or SQL.
  • Can supplement equivalent years of experience with a degree in Public Health or related field (e.g., Epidemiology, Sociology, Health Administration, Biostatistics, Health Science, Community Health Education) on a year by year basis.
  • Must be willing to physically come in the office to perform the duties & responsibilities of the positions .
