About The Position

Provide clinical athletic training services in local orthopedic clinics following the rules and regulations of the National Athletic Trainers Association Code of Ethics, BOC Standards of Professional Practice, applicable state State Practice Act and Regulations for Licensed Athletic Trainers, and system-wide and Orthopedic departmental Policies and Procedures. This position may require you to travel to local orthopedics clinic locations as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in athletic training from a Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) program.
  • Current athletic training certification by the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer (BOC).
  • Currently licensed or eligible for a State of applicable state License in Athletic Training within 30 days of hire.
  • Ability to complete American Heart Association Healthcare Provider (BLS), which includes CPR and AED training within 30 days of hire.
  • Excellent leadership qualities and decision making skills, as well problem solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills to include oral and written comprehension and expression. Relay information appropriately over telephone, computers, and other communication devices. Explain all processes to patients in plain language and utilize teach back to ensure understanding.
  • Ability to work independently & confidently.
  • Proactive in building relationships with AHWFB physicians and staff.
  • Interact with staff/visitors with a variety of developmental and sociocultural backgrounds.
  • Promotes an open atmosphere of communication. Communicates is a professional and timely manner with physicians, staff, and all members of the healthcare team.
  • Informs supervisor and the healthcare team of issues and resolutions to potential problems as appropriate. Communicates pertinent information horizontally and laterally.
  • Ability to understand and communicate medical terminology with patients, parents, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Works within the Sports Medicine Team concept and accepts assignments based on department need and organizational needs and provides medical coverage as needed.
  • Initiate problem solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships with peers.
  • Ability to work well with all ages, races, class and gender of people

Responsibilities

  • Room patients and obtain pertinent medical history from patient/guardian.
  • Perform clinical injury evaluation and assessment of patient's level of function and follows standardized clinical practice in the area of diagnostic reasoning and medical decision making.
  • Order x-rays and/or imaging exams for patients as directed by providers.
  • Ability to prepare injections as directed by provider.
  • Provides support to the physician with procedures and wound care.
  • Apply custom splint and/or fiberglass casts as well as removal of casts.
  • Fit and instruct patients how to use braces, boots, crutches, splints, and any other durable medical equipment (DME.).
  • Provides support to the physician with concussion testing (baseline and/or post-injury), and maintains necessary training on concussion education, management, and care.
  • Provides therapeutic home exercise program instruction.
  • Administrative duties includes; answer patient calls, preparing charts (if applicable), patient paperwork, making post op calls, scheduling and coordinating patient appointments, completion of insurance, referral, disability, and FMLA forms, obtain prior authorizations.
  • Document/chart clinic notes in EPIC (EMR) with minimal mistakes.
  • Maintain confidentiality (HIPAA) in matters relating to patient records.
  • Assists in Patient Education for chronic and acute disease.
  • Participate in patient data collection for research studies (as needed).
  • Clean and stock exam rooms with required supplies.
  • Adheres to departmental dress code when providing on-site Athletic Training services.
  • Participates in professional growth and development related to the field of sports medicine to further his/her knowledge and maintain competencies required for the position and specific unit/ area(s) of assignment.
  • Assist with planning, organizing, implementing and compliance of departmental and policies.
  • Perform other related clinical duties as required incumbent to State Board of Medicine/ Board of Athletic Training Statue and Rules.
  • All employees must be immunized according to CDC standards and hospital policy. Limited exemptions may be made for documented medical contraindications or religious beliefs that object to vaccinations.
