About The Position

The Trainer for the Peer Training and Placement Program is responsible for delivering structured, high-quality facilitation for the 80- hour Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist training curriculum delivered through live online and in-person instruction, virtual office hours, Continuing Education (CE) classes, and program outreach presentations. The Trainer program recruitment and outreach efforts follow the Peer Training and Placement Program trajectory, which includes outreach, registration, readiness interviews, class facilitation, and limited post-training support as appropriate.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist Certification (CMPSS) from CalMHSA OR CalMHSA-approved 80-hour peer support training completed or in progress at time of hire, with certification obtained within 90 days of employment
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience facilitating or teaching adult learners in virtual and/or in-person settings
  • Ability to appropriately and professionally share lived experience
  • Ability to establish and maintain supportive relationships with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Demonstrated success in completing accurate and timely documentation Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Zoom, Google Forms, and web navigation
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
  • Reliable and consistent attendance

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Peer Support Specialist
  • Bilingual and bicultural in one or more County of San Diego threshold languages (Spanish, Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), Korean, Somali, Filipino (Tagalog), Vietnamese)

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate live virtual and in-person training sessions aligned with program curriculum
  • Deliver training content clearly, professionally, and with scheduled timeframes
  • Establish and maintain a supportive, inclusive, and structured learning environment
  • Manage group dynamics and emotionally activating discussions using trauma-informed practices
  • Appropriately and professionally integrate lived experience in alignment with peer support principles
  • Track attendance, participation, and complete required program documentation accurately and on time
  • Collaborate with program staff to ensure training consistency and quality
  • Participate in community outreach and recruitment activities as assigned
  • Always maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
