About The Position

Summary Statement Incumbents in this class supervise the sign installation/pavement marking section. Their primary function is to plan, schedule, assign and direct the effective use of resources. Requirements

  • Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:
  • Six months experience in interpreting blueprints, schematics or technical drawings.
  • Six months experience in traffic sign installation.
  • Six months experience in inventory control which includes ordering, receiving, tracking, storing and handling inventory; disbursing materials, supplies and equipment.
  • Six months experience in interpreting the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) requirements.
  • Knowledge of estimating cost, time and materials for projects.
  • Knowledge of staff supervision acquired through course work, academic training, training provided through an employer, or performing as a lead worker overseeing the work of others; OR supervising staff which may include planning, assigning, reviewing, and evaluating the work of others; OR supervising through subordinate supervisors a group of professional, technical, and clerical employees.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

  • Pre-employment Drug Testing: Upon a conditional offer, you must undergo pre-employment drug testing as part of the hiring process.

Responsibilities

  • Prioritizes, schedules and assigns work to be completed in accordance with productivity standards.
  • Monitors work underway, resolves technical problems and ensures compliance with policies, standards and schedules.
  • Monitors contract work underway for compliance with contract terms and specifications, approves progress payments and recommends approval of final payments.
  • Ensures that traffic controls in construction and maintenance work zones are appropriate for the traffic characteristics and work operations underway, and develops traffic control plans for construction detours.
  • Prepares reports accounting for materials, man-hours and equipment used on projects.
  • Requisitions materials for signing and marking operations and approves use of materials from stock.
  • Receives and investigates public inquiries regarding signs or markings and takes necessary corrective actions.
  • Coordinates with utility companies prior to installation to assure utility line clearances.
