About The Position

Arcadis is seeking a Traffic Management Center (TMC) Operations Specialist with TMC experience to join the team in Nashville, TN. In this role you will assist our team in the TDOT Traffic Management Center finding, monitoring, and resolving events along the I-24 SMART Corridor. Utilizing technologies and active communication skills, you will be providing safety improvements for Tennesseans. This is an onsite position requiring you to be at the client site Monday - Friday, 1:00pm CT - 9:00pm CT. Candidate must be a TN resident, local to the Nashville. This role will sit within the larger Global Mobility Business Area. Climate change, urbanization and digitization trends are requiring today's mobility projects and systems to address an evolving set of demands from the world's growing population. We design connected, sustainable solutions that integrate existing infrastructure with new technologies, and optimize the mobility of people and goods. The TMC Operations Specialist will manage the traffic network along I-24 and parallel routes in response to planned special events, crashes, and other highway events, with the primary goal of first responder and public safety. This is an onsite role. Candidates must also be able to work alternate schedules and be available on-call as necessary. This position may be subject to short or no-notice work assignments and generally operates within an indoor, controlled-climate environment, although occasional field trips or site visits may be required. The role requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods and the capacity to travel and be physically present at the Traffic Management Center (TMC) independently. Responsibilities include significant periods of CCTV monitor viewing, monitoring other sources of information, and frequent data entry, as well as heavy usage of telephones and computers. The work schedule is closely supervised, with monitored performance and routine evaluations. Additionally, there is potential for interaction with the public and media.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Candidate must be a TN resident, local to the Nashville.
  • Ability to use traffic control computer applications and familiarity with local roadways are required.
  • Candidate must be able to multi-task and thrive in a fast-paced environment is important, along with competence in using computers, specifically Windows-based applications.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in public safety, emergency management, transportation dispatch, customer service, or a similar environment preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well within a diverse group are essential.
  • The candidate should possess demonstrated abilities to write reports and correspondence, effectively take calls, dispatch via radio or telephone, and clearly communicate information over a radio system or network in a concise manner.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a dynamic operation environment with the primary goal of public safety for all roadway users.
  • Operate access and control traffic management devices using TDOT SmartWay Central Software (CCTV, Variable Speed Limit (VSL), Lane Control Signs (LCS), Dynamic Message Signs (DMS), etc.) and other equipment to monitor the interstate and arterial corridors of the I-24 SMART Corridor.
  • Activate appropriate response(s) to detect and/or report incidents, including, but not limited to, dispatch of service patrols, location assistance to first responders, and notification to the public
  • Relay incident and roadway information to other TDOT departments and coordinate with Asset Maintenance staff to respond to roadway events.
  • Use asset management system for project devices to monitor, log tickets, and update maintenance statuses.
  • Manage special event operations as directed by TDOT.
  • Employ various software applications to control ITS field devices, monitor traffic flow, and perform data analysis
  • Cooperate with Region TMC partners (THP, TDOT, HELP Operators, Local Law Enforcement, Fire Rescue, etc.) as well as Emergency Operations Centers, adjacent TMCs and other TDOT Districts to coordinate resources for incidents.
  • Provide guidance to responders and motorists during severe traffic-related events
  • Post alerts, notifications, and messages as needed
  • Support staff in identifying traffic congestion along the arterial network, based on pre-defined performance measures, while implementing pre-defined traffic mitigation measures in a timely manner.
  • Performs other related work as directed.

  • The salary range for this position is $49,390-79,023. Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
