About The Position

We are currently searching for a Traffic Engineer to support our growing Traffic Engineering Department in the Mid-Atlantic regional offices located in Camp Hill, PA, Pittsburgh, PA or Charleston, WV. The position may be filled at a higher/Senior level position depending on the qualifications. The candidate will serve as an integral component of our traffic engineering team supporting delivery of traffic engineering projects, collaborate with multidisciplinary team and serve a key role in various roadway improvements, intersection modifications and multimodal safety projects. The successful candidate will work on challenging transportation planning and design projects in the MidAtlantic region providing technical expertise and ensuring compliance with locality and state DOT standards. To be considered for this position, applicants must have, at minimum, a Bachelor’s of Science in Civil Engineering or equivalent.

Requirements

  • BS in Civil Engineering or equivalent
  • 3-7 years of traffic engineering experience
  • EIT is required, PE is preferred
  • Must be proficient in MicroStation or AutoCAD
  • Knowledge of traffic analyses software packages
  • Familiarity with PennDOT, PTC, WVDOH, and locality standards, MUTCD and AASHTO
  • Self-starter and capable of completing tasks with minimal oversight
  • Attention to details and quality driven approach
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening to ensure a safe and productive work environment. Volkert adheres to federal guidelines, which may include testing for substances such as marijuana. Please note that federal regulations may differ from state-specific guidelines
  • Valid driver’s license
  • A satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR)

Responsibilities

  • Prepare design plans for various tasks involving various intersection safety and multimodal improvements as well as large infrastructure projects.
  • Prepare traffic signal design plans for new intersections and signal modifications to facilitate multimodal accommodations.
  • Prepare traffic management plan (TMP) and temporary traffic control plans, permanent signing and pavement marking plans, ITS design plans.
  • Assist in preparing conceptual intersection layouts, schematics, signal timings, corridor studies and analysis, road safety audits and engineering reports.
  • Prepare quantities and develop PS&E packages supporting design projects.
  • Collaborate with diverse team of professionals including engineers, transportation planners and landscape architects.
  • Attend project meetings with clients.
  • Support Project Managers in various project management activities such as assist in developing scope and fee proposals, presentations, and reports.
