Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on transportation/traffic or a related field is required.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification is required.
  • Valid Georgia driver’s license with a good driving record
  • Traffic engineering software such as Synchro and HCS
  • Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD)
  • Civil WorkSuite or AutoCAD and ArcGIS
  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to obtain GA SWCC Level 1B certification within one year
  • National Incident Management System (NIMS) training

Responsibilities

  • Providing technical engineering support and assisting with specifications for traffic engineering and public works projects
  • Supporting traffic engineers and project managers on: Traffic capacity and operations analysis Traffic calming initiatives Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Safety and operational studies
  • Helping develop and implement the City’s Intersection Operations and Safety Program
  • Reviewing traffic control plans for: Utilities Special events Land disturbance permits Construction and public works projects
  • Reviewing and developing signing and striping plans
  • Conducting traffic operations and safety analyses, including field reviews and data collection
  • Supporting the City’s Traffic Calming Program, including: Applying adopted policies Coordinating with citizens and stakeholders Conducting field investigations and preparing traffic calming plans Attending public meetings
  • Preparing clear, professional responses to a wide range of internal and external customers, including: Elected officials City management Other city departments Residents and community stakeholders
