Role description: Arcadis is seeking a Junior Level Transportation Design Engineer to join the team in New Orleans, LA. In this position, you will have the opportunity to be mentored and trained by technical experts in the field of transportation design. With the support of one of the industry's leading technical and professional staffs, you will assist our growing transportation design and traffic engineering group in Tennessee in the preparation of roadway design plans, engineering reports, studies and analyses in a wide range of areas (e.g. traffic operations, safety and transportation planning projects). This position offers an excellent opportunity to grow professionally while working on a wide variety of projects alongside a dedicated and experienced staff.

Requirements

  • Interest in traffic engineering/ planning, transportation safety, transportation modeling (micro, meso, and macro), and traffic operations
  • Experience/ familiarity with traffic analysis tools Synchro, VISSIM &/or Sidra, Highway Capacity Manual and Highway Safety Manual methodologies.
  • Flexible attitude towards assignments, with the initiative and ability to take on new projects and other challenges regularly.
  • BS degree in engineering

Nice To Haves

  • Prior internship experience in engineering consulting or DOT

Responsibilities

  • Conduct safety and operational analysis for intersections and corridors
  • Analyze historical safety data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement
  • Apply Highway Capacity Manual and Highway Safety Manual Methodologies
  • Utilize big data sources to identify safety and operational needs
  • Provide program support functions for large engineering programs across the Southeast
  • Perform CAD assignments, including the creation of engineering documents, figures, and incorporation of engineer's markups
  • Develop traffic simulations models using platforms such as HCS, Synchro, VISSIM, and Sidra
  • Assist with researching engineering standards, traffic operation, simulation, and safety as well as research and implementation of smart infrastructure and CAV technologies in programs and corridors
  • Work with other disciplines such as survey, roadway design, and environmental to increase engineering knowledge and facilitate successful project delivery

Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
