About The Position

The Part-Time Sunday Traffic Controller is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient movement of vehicle and pedestrian traffic at Rock Church’s Point Loma campus, located in Liberty Station. This role oversees all traffic operations during all Sunday services, directing vehicle flow on and off property and managing pedestrian movement across adjacent streets and parking areas. The Traffic Controller leads a team of certified volunteer Traffic Control Team Members, ensuring adherence to safety standards and coordination with local regulations.

Requirements

  • Minimum 21 years of age.
  • Valid Driver’s License and current Traffic Control Certification (required per local/state law).
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in traffic or pedestrian management, public safety, or parking coordination preferred.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, especially in dynamic or high-volume environments.
  • Ability to stand and direct traffic outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm, courteous, and professional under pressure.
  • Commitment to the mission, vision, and values of Rock Church.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in traffic or pedestrian management, public safety, or parking coordination preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate volunteer Traffic Control Team Members assigned to Liberty Station and church property.
  • Direct both vehicle and pedestrian traffic to maintain a safe, organized flow during arrival and departure times.
  • Ensure compliance with City of San Diego and Liberty Station regulations related to street and pedestrian traffic control.
  • Monitor and adjust traffic control plans based on real-time conditions, including service schedules, weather, or special events.
  • Communicate effectively via radio with Safety, Security, and Facilities teams to ensure cohesive operations.
  • Train, support, and evaluate certified volunteer team members in the execution of their duties.
  • Respond promptly to incidents such as accidents, unsafe conditions, or emergencies, and coordinate with first responders when necessary.
  • Maintain documentation of volunteer attendance, shift assignments, and incident reports.
  • Ensure all safety gear, signage, cones, and radios are properly used and maintained.
