A Traffic Control Technician (TCT) in Texas plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and safe flow of traffic. This position involves the installation and maintenance of various traffic control devices such as traffic signals, road signs, barriers, and pavement markings, including both new installations and repairing or replacing damaged items. During road construction, accidents, or other incidents, a TCT will implement temporary traffic control measures to manage and redirect traffic safely, often involving setting up cones, barrels, and signs to guide drivers and ensure roadwork is conducted safely. Regular inspections of traffic control equipment are required to ensure everything is functioning properly, including checking signal timing, the visibility of signs, and the condition of road markings. A TCT works closely with other municipal departments, construction crews, and law enforcement to plan and execute traffic control strategies, especially during major roadwork or events that impact traffic flow. Compliance with state and federal regulations, including the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), is essential. In case of accidents or hazardous conditions, the TCT will respond quickly to set up appropriate traffic control measures to prevent further incidents and ensure safety.
