About The Position

The Fire Alarm Technician will monitor, maintain adjust, and repair building Fire Alarm systems owned or leased by the Medical University Hospital Authority in order to ensure safety, environmental control and economy of these systems. Scheduling of outages, impairments, and proper record keeping of DHEC and JCAHO documentation are also required. The Fire Alarm Technician will take call on a rotating basis. Considered Essential Personnel in a disaster situation. 10% - Rotate in with other technicians for First Call Status in after hour Fire Alarm emergencies one full week at a time. Responsible for State issued phone and response within two hours during 7 day on-call rotations. Have reliable transportation for emergency response at all hours. Accepts A team status during Emergency Events. 10% - Maintain a safe work environment and ensure proper shop maintenance. Maintain MUSC/MUHA dress code policy. Attend shop safety meetings. Utilize proper PPE. Identify and report unsafe conditions. 5% - Keep abreast of the latest trends in the field of expertise. Attend at least two seminars or training events organized by MUSC/MUHA. Become familiar with NFPA 101,70,72,20, and 25. Participate in scheduled code and compliance interactive presentations. 20%- Maintain Joint Commission Maintenance Compliance, AAALAC, DHEC, MUSC AHJ, and Local Fire Department. Assist with the identification of compliance issues. Attend after hours inspections. Repair or assist Vendor with the repair of all EOC findings within 72 hours or document reason to extend deadline. 30% - Responsible for the testing and Inspection of University building fire alarm systems. Keep accurate records of all testing and preventative maintenance by utilizing the AIM work order system and test/scan software. 25%- Facilitate and supervise all fire alarm impairments and outages and contract work performed within the University and Hospital. Assess areas for Hot Work Hazards. Communicate with vendors MUSC and MUHA procedures for Hot Work. Verify all impairments have been returned to normal by the end date and time on the impairment requests. Keep all Fire Alarm control / pump rooms clean and in compliance. Respond to trouble calls.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma and three years trade experience that is directly related to the area of employment.
  • Some positions require a commercial driver's license.
  • Some positions require EPA-approved freon recovery certification.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid drivers license.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain EPA Approved Freon recovery certification.
