About The Position

The Senior Trade Compliance Specialist serves as the lead point of contact for a specific Business Unit and serves as liaison with corporate trade compliance. This role oversees the day-to-day operations for all Trade Compliance and Customs related activities for the Business Unit (BU) in the U.S., Canada, Mexico.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, Logistics, Operations, Supply Chain or a related discipline, or commensurate experience, required.
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in previous compliance positions required.
  • Extensive knowledge and familiarity with Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), product classification, U.S., and overseas import regulations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; Excel required; SAP and/or Oracle ERP systems.
  • Strong problem solving, analytical, and project management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for interaction with internal and external customers.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, pressurized environment. Ability to adapt to situational demands of the business in meeting critical deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Customs Brokerage License or Certified Customs Specialist preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day customs operations for BU; serves as a primary point of contact for all trade compliance activities.
  • Provide oversight and support to third party service provider to ensure accurate HTS, Schedule B, and ECCN classifications for all component and manufactured product utilizing the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS) General Rules of Interpretation (GRI's), Binding Rulings, Explanatory Notes, and Informed Compliance Publications.
  • Provide oversight and support to third party service provider on various free trade processes with an emphasis on accuracy compliance and continuous improvement. This includes analysis and interpretation of trade data, Harmonized Tariff Schedules, and Code of Federal Regulations (CFR).
  • Collaborate cross functionally inside as well as beyond the BU for all trade compliance activities including system access, access to bills of materials, and identifying potential anomalies or risks.
  • Partner with Finance to ensure proper and on time payment to Customs authorities as well as research/resolve trade financial matters.
  • Support Corporate Trade Compliance in developing and managing a comprehensive Global Trade Compliance Program including maintaining work instructions and systems procedures for the BU.
  • Conduct periodic audits, assessments, and reviews to ensure BU compliance to policies and procedures.
  • Provide timely response to inquiries and ongoing training/education to BU to ensure trade compliance with CBP rules and regulations.
  • Monitor key performance metrics and leads/supports special projects to improve or eliminate non-value-added processes.
  • Actively track regulatory changes and assesses risks and opportunities to BU products, processes/procedures for BU trade compliance.
