JOB SUMMARYResponsible for operating equipment and tractors at Colonial Downs Racetrack. This is a seasonal position for the March race meet at Colonial Downs.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Operates the water truck to hydrate the track with a specific amount of water to provide excellent conditions for racing. Fills truck tank with water; sprays water in designated areas. Operates tractors (John Deere 6000 and 7000 series) and track maintenance equipment including, but not limited to, track harrows, conditioners, and floats. May operate additional equipment such as large vehicles, forklifts, mowers, and at times, a variety of hand tools and equipment. Performs daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment. Monitors vehicle performance, fluid levels, and mechanical fitness. Works with the vehicle maintenance team to ensure preventative maintenance as well as timely and efficient repairs so equipment is always ready for use when needed. Performs a variety of physically demanding labor on a routine basis and in compliance with all safety standards. Assists with cleaning backside areas to maintain suitable appearance and sanitation standards of the facility. Completes all work assignments on time and with accuracy. Resolves problems within the position’s scope of authority and recommends courses of action for issues beyond scope to the supervisor. Keeps supervisor informed of relevant activities. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • General knowledge of equipment, tractors, and other equipment used in track operations.
  • Ability to properly perform machine start-up, operation, and shutdown procedures.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment while maintaining safe work practices.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience operating tractors and/or heavy equipment preferred.
  • Must be available to work during the full opening of the stable area and racetrack for training, as well as the full race meet at Colonial Downs.
  • Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Virginia Racing Commission racing license.
  • Must be able to drive tractors several hours per day.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to get up and down and in and out of equipment multiple times per shift.
  • The Team Member will be required to work outdoors and in varying weather conditions.
