About The Position

Freeman Boatworks builds the world’s finest offshore fishing boats, blending innovation, craftsmanship, and performance. Our team takes pride in delivering unmatched quality and attention to detail in every vessel. We’re seeking a Tooling Technician to join our production team. This role is ideal for someone with strong hands-on skills who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and takes pride in precision workmanship.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of fiberglass materials, resin systems, bonding techniques, and surface preparation methods used in mold construction
  • Understanding of chemical composition, safe handling, and proper disposal of resins, catalysts, and other composite materials
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to produce precise, high-quality surfaces
  • Good time management skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Comfort working cautiously and efficiently in environments with fumes, dust, vibration, and noise
  • Work is performed in a manufacturing setting with regular exposure to fiberglass dust, resins, fumes, and loud noise
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, protective suits, dust masks, and respirators is required
  • Requires standing and walking for extended periods, with occasional sitting, climbing, kneeling, or crouching
  • Must be able to frequently lift and move up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in fiberglass tooling or lamination preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the construction and finishing of plugs, glass master parts, and production molds that form the foundation for our boats
  • Apply knowledge of fiberglass, bonding techniques, and resin systems using precision instruments, hand tools, power tools, and production equipment
  • Perform fiberglass layup by patting and pressing layers of saturated mat/cloth into molds using brushes or hands
  • Mix and apply resins and catalysts, inspecting completed tooling for quality and defects
  • Trim, repair, and modify fiberglass tooling components, ensuring accuracy and durability
  • Block, sand, and fair surfaces to create smooth, balanced, and production-ready mold finishes
