About The Position

Under the direction of the Foundry Tooling Manager, the Tooling Technician will support the design, maintenance, fabrication, and optimization of production tooling used in investment casting processes. This role is responsible for maintaining investment molds, operating and maintaining presses, supporting tooling design and programming, and performing machine operations for both rough and finished machining. The Tooling Technician contributes to efficient tooling workflows, ensures high-quality production standards, and supports continuous improvement initiatives under the direction of the Machining Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of tooling, mold making, machining, and fixture design.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, CAD files, and machining specifications.
  • Experience operating machine equipment (mills, lathes, etc.) for both rough and finished work.
  • Hands-on knowledge of tool assembly, die maintenance, and mechanical repair fundamentals.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot mechanical and tooling issues.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work, and meet deadlines.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across departments.
  • Associate degree or certification in Tooling, Manufacturing, Machining, or a related technical field preferred.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in tooling, machining, mold making, or a related manufacturing environment.
  • Equivalent combination of education and hands-on experience will be considered.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with CAD/CAM software (Fusion360, Simplify 3D, or similar).
  • Background in investment casting, foundry tooling, or wax molds.
  • Familiarity with CNC equipment, 3D printing, or additive tooling processes.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance and repair of investment molds and associated tooling.
  • Conduct die design adjustments and die maintenance to ensure accurate, repeatable production.
  • Execute press maintenance to ensure safe and reliable operation.
  • Fit, assemble, and troubleshoot production tooling, ensuring proper alignment, function, and durability.
  • Support fixture design, fabrication, and modification to improve production flow and tool accuracy.
  • Assist in tooling estimation, providing input for cost, labor, and feasibility assessments.
  • Perform machine operation for rough and finish machining tasks.
  • Support tool design and CNC program creation, including CAD/CAM programming as directed.
  • Ensure proper setup of tooling within machining operations.
  • Create, update, and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), Bills of Operations (BOOs), and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Track inventory for tooling components, materials, and spare parts.
  • Assist in tooling P&L tracking, providing accurate cost data and usage information.
  • Maintain clear, organized records of tooling repairs, changes, and open requests.
  • Support project management of active tooling requests, ensuring timely completion and communication.
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, and pattern personnel to resolve tooling issues and support production requirements.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to increase tooling durability, efficiency, and quality.
