1 REPORTING RELATIONSHIP Reports to the Manufacturing Engineer Technologist/Tooling Supervisor. 2 PURPOSE 2.1 Function 2.1.1 To produce spare or new tooling for production equipment from drawing, personal conceptualization, or otherwise 2.1.2 To assist in brainstorming improvement activities relating to equipment and/or tooling 2.1.3 To perform tooling related PM’s and make recommendations to supervisor for improvements / changes 2.1.4 To perform and act as a team to support the needs of the organization as determined 2.1.5 To complete and / or assign work orders in the MVP system for activities requested or completed 2.2 Authority 2.2.1 Do what is needed to repair machines in a timely fashion to support production 2.2.2 Request tooling and materials as needed for assigned projects 2.2.3 Adjust designs as needed to make improvements to reduce failure frequency, improve quality, or reduce costs. 3 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 3.1 Install, repair, fabricate, remove plant tooling, fixturing and gaging, and conduct preventative maintenance as required on machinery and tooling. 3.2 Produce and upkeep production gaging by direction from QE’s 3.3 Contact vendors to locate and order machine components or repair parts. 3.4 Participate on problem solving teams to help rectify quality or production problems. 3.5 Update drawings as appropriate. 3.6 To rework component parts as required to support production 3.7 Document tooling changes to provided drawings 3.8 Utilize MVP system to document tooling activity 3.9 Perform other duties as directed by supervision. 3.10 Ability to build new fixtures/gages. 4 MEASUREMENTS/COMPETENCIES 4.1 Ability to troubleshoot and repair tooling without direct supervision. 4.2 Ability to systematically disassemble and reassemble equipment. 4.3 Verbal and written communication skills. 4.4 Team work. 4.5 MVP proficiency. 4.6 Ability to work safely and efficiently. 5 SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITY This position has no supervisory responsibilities. 6 WORK ENVIRONMENT The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. May occasionally work in hot or cold temperatures. May occasionally walk on slippery or uneven surfaces. 7 QUALIFICATIONS 7.1 High school diploma or equivalent, plus tooling training through a college or vocational/technical school. 7.2 Prefer an individual with journeyman tool and die certificate or minimum five years’ experience in machine “job shop," machine shop or industrial tool room. 7.3 Ability to read blueprints. 7.4 Ability to utilize measuring devices such as tape measure, calipers, thread gages, thickness gages, etc. 7.5 CNC experience preferred. 7.6 Understanding of cutting tools, materials, feeds, and speeds, and material removal techniques. 7.7 Welding experience preferred. 7.8 Materials knowledge preferred with experience in heat treating. 8 PHYSICAL DEMANDS 8.1 Prolonged periods of standing and performing repetitive tasks. 8.2 Must be able to lift up to 32 pounds at a time. 8.3 Must have manual dexterity in order to assemble products or machines as directed. 8.4 Must have excellent hand-eye coordination. 8.5 Ability to differentiate between colored wires, tabs, and electronic components. 8.6 Must wear gloves, safety glasses, safety shoes, and ear protection, per the Elemental Operations Instructions Safety Points. 9 POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK This is a full time position. Typical days and hours of work are Monday through Friday.
