As a Tooling and Fixturing Technician at Terex, based in Huron, SD, you'll play a pivotal role in implementing tooling and fixturing solutions that eliminate waste, including but not limited to improving safety, reducing cycle times, eliminating quality issues, and reducing costs.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to run manual mill and lathe required.
  • Ability to use SolidWorks CAD software required.
  • 2+ years related work creating fixtures preferred
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes: Assembly, Welding, Fabrication and Machining.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to details; safety, quality, delivery, cost, TM morale.
  • Problem solving and mechanical aptitude.
  • Basic level using Microsoft systems such as Outlook, Excel and Word.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced Vocational Technical training in machining and welding or Tooling & Fixturing preferred.
  • Ability to run and program 3 axis CNC mill preferred.
  • Assembly, fabrication, machining and welding experience preferred.
  • Welding certification preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of pneumatics and hydraulics preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design new jigs and fixtures using Solid Works based on requests from our Fabrication, Machining, and Welding departments.
  • Attach new jig and fixture drawings to the proper part numbers in the Solid Works vault to help flag future changes that may be needed from Engineering Change Orders.
  • Conduct design review of new jigs and fixtures prior to manufacturing them with the appropriate stakeholders and end users to make sure they will meet their requirements and all safety, ergonomics and machine guarding requirements.
  • Make item masters, product structures, routes and work orders in TMS to make the parts that go into their fixture projects.
  • Use Tool Room database to initiate, update and close work orders and to update Tool & Fixture PM’s.
  • Use Manual Mill and Lathe, Saws, Welder, Radial Drill and other miscellaneous equipment in the Tool Room Department to manufacture parts for jigs and fixtures that cannot be made in the shop.
  • Utilize precision tools to measure and ensure quality of all jig and fixture projects.
  • Assemble, prove out and install jigs and fixtures for safety, accuracy and quality.
  • Verify acceptable quality of all jig and fixtures produced in the Tool Room and correct any quality issues as needed.
  • Train and assist line team members on using jigs and fixtures as needed.
  • Support safety projects - Build, test, & install the necessary equipment to improve safety.
  • Assist in relocating of shop equipment as needed to meet production requirements.
  • Utilize the appropriate PPE and follow all safety procedures.
  • Perform daily machine guarding audits, SOP’s, crane inspections and 5S audits in the Tool Room Department to maintain equipment and Tool Room area.
  • Escalate as needed to correct any issues.
  • Assure that all consumables, supplies and material are available and assist with reordering them as needed.
  • Enter purchase requisitions into TMS.
  • Participate in problem solving activities.
  • Engage in conversation around problems to help come up with the best possible solution.
