Responsible for determining the most efficient processes to manufacture precision components and tooling. Sets up and operates manual and CNC machines to produce high-quality parts that meet strict tolerances, working independently with minimal supervision.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school training preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience setting up and operating CNC and manual machining equipment in a toolroom or similar environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of GD&T and blueprint reading.
  • Proven ability to hold tight tolerances and produce precision components.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive motions.
  • Required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety footwear and eye protection

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with conversational CNC programming (e.g., Hurco) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret engineering drawings, sketches, and sample parts to understand specifications, tolerances, and critical features.
  • Develop and optimize machining processes for new and existing parts.
  • Provide feedback on part and tooling design to improve manufacturability and efficiency.
  • Machine components from prints, sketches, or verbal instructions to precise specifications.
  • Apply strong understanding of datums and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Set up and operate a variety of equipment including CNC mills (Hurco), CNC lathes (Haas), manual mills, lathes, grinders, and related support equipment.
  • Program CNC machines using Mastercam or conversational programming at the machine.
  • Select appropriate tooling, feeds, and speeds to ensure optimal performance and tool life.
  • Troubleshoot machining issues and implement corrective actions to maintain quality and productivity.
  • Train and support operators by providing clear instructions on setups, tooling, offsets, and inspection requirements.
  • Perform routine equipment maintenance, including fluid checks and basic upkeep.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in accordance with company standards.
  • Properly use and care for all company tools, equipment, and measuring instruments.
  • Utilize precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, indicators, etc.) to verify part quality.
  • Apply shop math skills, including decimal and fraction conversions, geometry, and trigonometry as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, engineers, and leadership.
