About The Position

This position is a four-year/8000 hour registered apprenticeship. At the completion of 8000 hours, the apprentice will earn a Tool Maker Journeyman status and be recognized through a Department of Labor certification. The apprentice will support the Tool Room and other departments by learning and operating various Tool Room equipment and processes. The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required
  • Currently enrolled in or willing to enroll in the Apprenticeships educational requirement through Reschcor's instructional partner
  • Experience or desire to operate grinders, milling machines, lathes, etc.
  • Some experience or the ability to learn how to utilize blueprints, micrometers and calipers
  • Highly motivated and able to work independently.
  • Possess strong time management skills
  • Ability to problem solve issues as they arise
  • Attentive to detail since precision is a key.
  • Highly organized with strong documentation skills.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to get along with others in a team environment
  • Good math and analytical skills.
  • Constant combination of standing and walking
  • Frequent gross and fine manipulation
  • Frequent bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting of up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasional stooping, crouching, kneeling

Nice To Haves

  • Work experience is not required, but strongly preferred
  • Certifications in machine tool technology are preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Sets up and operates vertical and CNC mills to produce tooling and die fixtures including
  • Sets up and operates manual and CNC lathes to produce tooling and die fixtures including
  • Sets up and operates wire EDM machines which includes: pulling slugs, changing wire spools, threading wire and changing filters, as needed.
  • Operates manual grinders to accurately grind tooling and parts to a specific dimension
  • Operates a drill presses and saws properly for specific outcomes
  • Responsible to perform appropriate inspection and quality control tasks using gauges, micrometers, calipers, and granite plates
  • Performs to very tight tolerances.
  • Maintains dies and tools for extrusion lines
  • Understand basic AutoCad/Esprit Software to draw projects
  • Support other departments through tool and die repair orders
  • Properly assemble new extrusion dies, jig and fixtures, and punch dies
  • Read blue prints and diagrams
  • Communicating with the Manager when issues occur that require more than a quick fix.
  • Maintaining a clean and organized work area.
  • Display effective communication skills.
  • Other Miscellaneous duties are required
  • Regular attendance pattern
