Gemstar is looking for an experienced Tool & Die Specialist to join the team at our location in Cannon Falls, MN! The position is responsible for working under limited supervision, designs, builds, and repairs molds, jigs, dies and fixtures required for the injection molding, thermal forming, rotational molding and other processes within the company. A day in the life of a Tool & Die Specialist at Gemstar includes: Using CAD and prints together with customer requirements to determine the nature of the job to be performed.  Understands all molding processes of the company well enough to design required jigs, molds and tools. Determine all materials to be used in the tooling process. Sets up and operates department equipment in accordance with standard operating procedures, making new tools, molds and fixtures used for drilling, routing, cutting, trimming, and other production processes. Design and produce metal molds and dies as required, working within tight tolerances. Anticipates shrinkage factors in designing and constructing molds to ensure that the final product is dimensionally accurate. Documents tool room processes and calculations. Performs continuous inspection of work performed to ensure that tools and molds produced are consistent with company standards of quality. Use machinists training and standards as required in the performance of the job. Estimates time and cost requirements to produce molds and fixtures. Repairs broken parts or equipment used in the production departments. Operates all the department equipment in accordance with approved safety procedures and uses all safety devices approved by the department manager. Follows approved safety procedures at all times. Maintains an effective working relationship with fellow employees. Maintains department in a neat and orderly manner at all times. May perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Proficient in using Solidworks and Mastercam software.
  • Demonstrated strong mechanical aptitude.
  • 2-year degree in Machine Tool Technology or equivalent work experience.
  • 5-7 years’ experience in designing and building injection or Rotomolding tools preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Incident Management experience – managing incidents including business expectations and communication is a plus
