About The Position

Sets up and operates conventional and special-purpose machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts and fits and assembles machined parts into complete units, applying knowledge of machine shop theory and procedures, shop mathematics, machine-ability of materials and layout techniques. Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece, sequence of operations and setup requirements. Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent machining. Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, atachments, accessories and materials on machines, such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders and shapers. Oversee and enforce lockout/tagout (LOTO) protocols to guarantee the safe deactivation and isolation of equipment, ensuring energy control procedures are correctly applied to prevent inadvertent machine startup or hazardous energy discharge during repair or maintenance, in line with OSHA regulations and organizational safety guidelines. Safely operates overhead cranes and hoisting equipment to move materials, components, and finished products within the manufacturing facility. Requirements

  • High school degree or GED required
  • Must have knowledge of shop mathematics, working properties of various metals and steels, and be capable of shaping parts to precise dimensions required
  • Experience with manual lathes, surface grinders, milling machines required
  • Lift up to 40 lbs. and perform physical tasks such as bending, twisting, grabbing, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, and using both hands to lift and lower materials, with or without accommodations
  • Adhere to proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) when on the shop floor (safety glasses, safety shoes, ear plugs, FR shirts, and others based on the department you are in)
  • Work efficiently in hot environments and tolerate loud noises

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of an accredited apprenticeship program or a two year related technical college education preferred.
