Under general supervision, designs, builds and repairs a variety of tools, jigs, fixtures, welding, brazing, and assembly fixtures. Responsible for guiding and training other tool makers. Analyzes specifications, lays-out metal stock, sets up and operates a wide variety of exact tolerance machine tools. Fits and assembles parts to fabricate and repair metal working dies, cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and machinists' hand tools. Modifies dies to conform to engineering changes. Requirements

  • Requires a high school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Requires 1-3 years related experience.
  • Moderate knowledge of how to tear down units, trouble shoot for problems, determine extent of troubles, repair damage mechanism or replace worn or defective parts and reassemble.
  • Some knowledge of how to select the best material suited for specific purposes, troubleshoot and diagnose problems with metalworking dies and other tooling.
  • Requires strong mathematical and analytical abilities.
  • Able to read and interpret blueprints and diagrams.
  • Must be able to move at least 50 pounds.
