LSI’s management team is focused on continued profitable growth. We are looking for Tool & Die Maker to support our team at our corporate location in Cincinnati, Ohio. Summary: The tool and die maker is responsible for designing, building, repairing, and maintaining precision tools, dies, jigs, fixtures and gauges used in LSI’s manufacturing processes. They will analyze specifications, lay-out metal stock, set up and operate machine tools, and assemble and fit parts to fabricate. They have deep knowledge of cutting tools and material properties, and they expertly apply use of gauges and machinist’s hand tools.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence, including emails.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Must be able to attend online meetings when asked, pull drawings from our CAD database in Vault, read and reply (at times) to emails.

Responsibilities

  • Follows all safety guidelines for use of all equipment in the shop.
  • Maintains a safe, clean and organized work environment by adhering to LSI’s 5S workplace organization strategy.
  • Collaborates with one other tool and die maker in the Blue Ash shop, engineers, internal customers and fabricators, shop supervision and assembly personnel to develop specifications from general descriptions for specialty tools, jigs, fixtures and draws or sketches design of product.
  • Studies specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions, and visualizes product to determine materials required and machines to be used to fabricate parts.
  • Computes dimensions, plans layout, and determines assembly method and sequence of operations.
  • Measures, marks, and scribes metal stock for machining.
  • Sets up and operates machine tools such as lathes, milling machine, shaper, and grinder to machine parts. Verifies conformance of machined parts to specifications.
  • Safely rigs and lifts heavy parts, including machined parts and positions and secures parts on surface plate, worktable or pallet to transfer.
  • Smooths flat and contoured surfaces and use of power grinders, fits and assembles parts together and into assemblies and mechanisms.
  • Verifies dimensions, alignments, and clearances.
  • Works with vendors and internal sourcing agents to facilitate work done beyond LSI tool room capabilities, such as heat-treat or wire EDM processes.
  • Connects wiring and hydraulic lines to install electrical and hydraulic components.
  • Examines standard or previously used dies, tools, and jigs and fixtures, and recommends design modifications regarding construction and function of part.
