Your Opportunity: The Tool Design Specialist II designs fixtures or jigs and/or a variety of special tooling for CMW use. Uses CAD to create and maintain all information necessary to design and direct the building of the tooling. This employee coordinates the work of drafter/illustrators and layout designers and performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Develop effective fixtures and/or jigs to facilitate the production of CMW products by performing tasks that include:
  • Post high school education of at least two years and/or experience in technology, CAD drafting, design, and manufacturing processes; or 6+ years of related experience.
  • Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of heavy machinery manufacturing processes.
  • Have a good work record, including indications of strong self-motivation, high productivity, reliable attendance, attention to quality, ability to learn new skills, and a cordial, cooperative personality.
  • Regular, continuous use of a personal computer and CAD system.
  • Office environment with periodic trips to the shop areas and occasional work outdoors.
  • The shop environment includes physical hazards such as powered vehicle, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic, sharp objects, and moving machinery.
  • Outdoor work may include observing or operating equipment at test fields or construction sites, in all kinds of weather conditions.
  • Rapidly changing workloads, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Common work weeks of up to 50 hours.
  • A high level of teamwork and cooperation.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of TOC, and Lean methods used in manufacturing processes is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop effective fixtures and/or jigs to facilitate the production of CMW products by performing tasks that include:
  • Creating, Maintaining and/or directing the creation of essential design information and documentation, including drafting of fixtures and jigs.
  • Evaluating and observing manufacturing processes and work methods.
  • Troubleshoot and correct problems with fixtures and jigs.
  • Working with product designers, production supervisors and other key department representatives.
  • Working with the fixture builders by providing assistance during the construction of various tooling and fixtures.
  • Communicating with suppliers of tooling related products and services.
  • Aid in the planning and prioritizing of the activities of the tooling design group.
  • Help establish appropriate goals and measure desired results.
  • Help communicate priorities and activities to the tooling design group.
  • Evaluate and recommend measures to improve the service and efficiency of the tooling design group.
  • Review tooling designs for compliance with standard engineering practices, company and industry standards.
  • Meet typical expectations for creativity, productivity, quality, ergonomics and safety.
