Signal Metal Industries is a well-established steel fabrication and machining company that manufactures large steel products for various heavy industries throughout the country. We do traditional job shop work and also perform production work for other large manufacturers in the USA. POSITION SUMMARY The Tool Room / Tool Crib Attendant is responsible for issuing, receiving, organizing, and maintaining tools, equipment, and parts used throughout the machine shop. This position ensures accurate inventory control, proper tool tracking, and a clean, organized tool room. This role also supports general shop needs and other duties as assigned by supervision.
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a machine shop, heavy manufacturing, fabrication, warehouse, or construction environment required
- Strong familiarity with industrial tools, hardware, and shop equipment
- Ability to accurately track, issue, and receive tools and materials
- Basic computer skills (data entry and inventory systems) required
- Ability to read work orders, part numbers, and follow written instructions
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Reliable, punctual, and consistent work history required
- Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
Nice To Haves
- Prior experience in a tool crib, tool room, inventory control, or parts issuing role preferred
Responsibilities
- Issue and receive tools, parts, and equipment to shop personnel
- Maintain accurate records of all tool and equipment transactions
- Perform daily inventory counts and cycle counts
- Organize and maintain the tool crib in a clean, orderly manner
- Track tool location and usage across departments
- Receive, inspect, and restock returned tools and parts
- Process request forms and ensure timely tool distribution
- Communicate with supervisors regarding inventory needs and shortages
- Assist with identifying slow-moving or obsolete inventory
- Maintain security and controlled access to the tool room
- Support after-hours or weekend tool requests as needed
- Assist with general shop support duties when required
