About The Position

The Mental Illness Recovery Center (MIRCI) is a Nonprofit that assists homeless individuals, adults, and youth with clinical needs and permanent housing. MIRCI is continuing to improve the opportunities for the homeless in the Midlands and surrounding areas and is seeking a TLP Residential Counselor. The TLP Residential Counselor - 1st Shift will assist youth housed in MIRCI's transitional and permanent supportive housing programs in developing and/or refining skills to help make a successful transition to self-sufficient living. The TLP Residential Counselor - 1st Shift receives direct supervision from the TLP Coordinator. This position will work Monday-Friday, 7:30 am to 3:30 pm.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of providing supportive services and assistance to youth who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
  • Knowledge of crisis interventions.
  • Knowledge and ability to communicate effectively with clients and other staff members.
  • Knowledge of basic health and welfare services provided by other public and private agencies.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective contact with individuals, families, and representatives of other professional disciplines.
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations, policies, and procedures relevant to persons served.
  • Associate's Degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Must have a valid SC driver's license and a good driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • 2 years' experience in a human service field is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides rehabilitative services to clients served, and responds to client needs effectively and in a timely manner.
  • Assists youth clients with developing housing plans.
  • Facilitates daily community meetings and skill-building groups.
  • Develops and maintains a therapeutic relationship with all youth residents.
  • Assists and supervises the daily maintenance of the youth residents, as well as the preparation of meals and self-administration of medications and activities to improve social skills/interaction.
  • Collects data to help track the youth's productivity, areas of growth, and individual needs.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
