About The Position

The position of Title IX Investigator independently conducts investigations into allegations of sex discrimination, sexual harassment, sexual misconduct, relationship (dating) violence, and stalking involving students and staff. Acts as a neutral party and provides an unbiased fact-finding report. This position description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, knowledge or abilities associated with this classification but is intended to accurately reflect the primary job elements.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Education, Criminal Justice, Pre-Law, Public Administration, Business, Human Resources or related field, plus an additional four (4) years of experience to include conducting investigations in an employment or educational environment
  • Experience communicating with children and students regarding sensitive matters
  • Strong knowledge of nondiscrimination laws and regulations, preferably including Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 and the Violence Against Women Act amendments to the Clery Act
  • PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED

Nice To Haves

  • Experience investigating sex discrimination and harassment complaints in a K-12 education environment highly preferred
  • Certification, training, and/or experience in conducting trauma-informed investigations is preferred for a total education and/or experience of eight (8) years.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates and consults with Title IX Program Manager to review and investigate complaints while ensuring a prompt, thorough and equitable response to reports and incidents.
  • Provides periodic, timely updates regarding status of complaints received to help identify and address any patterns or systemic problems and to ensure that applicable policies are communicated to District stakeholders.
  • Investigates complaints of discrimination and harassment, including but not limited to, reports of sex discrimination, sexual misconduct, sexual harassment, sexual violence, and gender-based discrimination.
  • Communicates effectively with students, parents, and school and District staff regarding Title IX matters and related compliance issues.
  • Composes comprehensive investigative reports that clearly identify the issues investigated, summarizes the evidence found, including information gathered from interviews conducted during the investigatory process, analyzes the matter within a legal framework, applies relevant laws, policies and procedures and makes findings and recommendations.
  • Assists in coordinating responses and/or position statements for civil rights charges filed externally, including but not limited to, charges filed with the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Civil Rights.
  • Maintains working knowledge of non-discrimination law and regulations, including but not limited to Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 and the Violence Against Women Act amendments to the Clery Act.
  • Develops, implements, coordinates, and conducts educational programs and initiatives to educate and support faculty, staff, and students on Title IX and related issues.
  • Collaborates with schools and District departments to support students, families, and District staff on Title IX matters and facilitate Title IX compliance.
  • In addition to Title IX matters, conduct or facilitate investigations for other discrimination or civil rights complaints as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
