About The Position

Under basic supervision, performs tire installation, repairs, and general maintenance on vehicles and machinery. Essential Functions: Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: Tire installation: Properly mount and install vehicle tires, ensuring correct fitment and torque specifications. Tire repair: Assess tire damage and perform repairs, such as patching, plugging, or patch-plug combinations. Tire rotation: Perform tire rotations to promote even tread wear and prolong tire life. Tire balancing: Use precision equipment to balance tires, minimizing vibrations and ensuring a smooth ride. Oil change: Drain and refill engine oil, replace oil filters, and perform related maintenance tasks according to manufacturer guidelines. Fluid checks: Inspect and top off fluid levels, including coolant, transmission fluid, power steering fluid, and brake fluid. Filter replacement: Replace air filters, cabin filters, and fuel filters as needed. Wheel alignment: Assist in performing wheel alignments to adjust the angles of the wheels for proper vehicle handling and tire wear. Vehicle inspections: Conduct visual inspections of vehicles to identify potential issues or areas of concern such as leaks, worn components, or damage. Equipment maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on tools and equipment used in tire and oil service to ensure proper functioning and safety. Documentation: Accurately record and manage work orders as required. Road service: Respond promptly to service calls for tire-related issues, such as flat tires, blowouts, and tire replacements Dead battery calls: Assist in jump-starting vehicles, providing temporary solutions to enable customers to reach their destination safely Shop cleaning functions: Support the cleanliness and organization of the shop by sweeping, mopping, dusting, and maintaining a clean work environment. Assist with the disposal of waste materials and ensure proper storage of tools and equipment. Requirements

  • One year of general tire service experience is required.
  • Experience in fueling vehicles, changing oil and oil filters, and changing or repairing auto and large equipment tires is also required.
  • A combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to the requirements above may be considered.
  • Knowledge of proper tools used in general automotive repairs.
  • Ability to safely use tools, vehicles, and equipment such as wreckers, tire hammers and breakdown bars, tire and wheel balancers, tire machines, jacks, air impact wrenches, forklifts, and assorted hand tools.
  • Skill in reading and practical application of manuals, schematics, and other similar specifications used by city departments.
  • Ability to read, measure, and calculate types and sizes of materials needed.
  • Ability to reason the amount of time that will be used in the actual repair process.
  • Ability to speak, understand, and follow instructions in English.
  • Ability to drive a vehicle to and from various work sites.
  • A valid Texas State Driver's License is required.
