About The Position

The Project Coordinator position at the City of Tucson’s Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) is responsible for planning, coordinating and supporting community development projects and events aimed at implementing improvements in the 29th Street Thrive Zone neighborhoods. This position serves as the 29th Street Thrive Zone’s primary staff liaison to community members, promotes, community partners including nonprofit organizations, schools, and government agencies. Additionally, this position is responsible for coordination of community events that rely on direct engagement with individuals in the community as part of the 29th Street Thrive Action Activities and in support of the development of the 29th Street Thrive Transformation Plan which is part of a Choice Neighborhood Planning grant from the U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development. This position performs team-based administrative and project support functions necessary to sustain operations and systems, including coordinating meetings, documenting actions and recommendations, posting public materials, planning and facilitating community meetings, collaborating on funding applications, and maintaining online engagement platforms. Work is performed under the supervision of the Community Services Project Supervisor. This position does not supervise.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in a related field
  • Two (2) years of relevant experience
  • Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years of experience providing administrative or operational support in a government, nonprofit, or human services setting.
  • Two (2) years of project coordination experience.
  • Professional written and oral communication in English as demonstrated in resume.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and virtual meeting platforms (e.g., Zoom or Microsoft Teams), as demonstrated through work history.
  • Experience collaborating or partnering with Thrive Zone communities and/or partners.
  • Experience in working with community development projects in disinvested communities.
  • Experience in event coordination/planning and/or community engagement projects.
  • Experience living in or working with diverse and refugee communities.
  • Bilingual in English and another language from the targeted communities (Spanish, Swahili, Somali, Kinyarwanda, Fulani, Persian, Farsi, Dari, Pashto, or Arabic).

Responsibilities

  • Supports outreach efforts and contributions for 29th Street Thrive Action Activities and Choice Neighborhood Planning Grant.
  • Supports department staff in engaging with diverse community members through event planning and coordination.
  • Attends and supports internal and external events and meetings.
  • Assists with marketing events, resources and community updates through by providing verbal and printed information, resources at events, businesses, or door to door canvassing.
  • Creates marketing content and updates 29th Street Thrive social media platforms and websites.
  • Assists with data collection through facilitation of online forms and surveys and uses translation tools to engage community members who speak other languages.
  • Provides up-to-date and organized reporting data for 29th Street Thrive internal and external reporting deadlines, providing detailed summaries of activities, accomplishments and community feedback.
  • Provides direct support to Thrive Zones Supervisor and team.
  • Other duties as assigned.
