About The Position

Ability to identify, analyze, develop and validate advanced technologies in the field of cooling of Power Conversion and Power Electronics is necessary. As a technical intern, work with electrical and mechanical engineers on the power conversion system designs, support emerging power conversion & power system solutions based on breakthrough cooling technologies for industrial, automotive, truck, and aerospace applications. Participate in technology projects by supporting teams (local and remote resources) and working with external technology resources (Business Divisions, Universities and Customers). Collaborate with multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural globally distributed teams, support specific task within the scope of work and provide updates to project manager. Support project plans and deliver results on budget and schedule. Support projects with partners from national labs, universities, and other research institutes.

Requirements

  • Graduate student (prefer PhD student) in Mechanical Engineering with special focus in advanced cooling technologies 1 years of experience
  • Fundamentals in thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid dynamics applicable to power electronics, electromagnetics, power conversion and electric drives, including creating specifications, designing technical solution concepts, and building and testing prototypes to validate models/hypotheses and documenting results.
  • Experience in modeling & simulation of thermal-fluid using thermal networks, FEA, &CFD analysis tools such as Icepak, Fluent, Ansys, Comsol etc.
  • 3D CAD modeling software knowledge (Creo, Inventor, Spaceclaim, Soldworks)
  • Good English communication and presentation skills (oral and written)
  • Experience presenting value proposition of new technologies

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in all modes of heat transfer (convection, conduction, radiation, phase change) in electric systems, and a good understanding of modeling and testing on 2 phase cooling and advance materials is a plus.
  • Experience in testing or designing liquid cooling solution for power electronics, immersion cooling, material compatiblitity, BOM, family selection of heat exchangers, pumps, fluid connections, fans, heat sinks
  • Appreciation for the trade-offs necessary to achieve designs that meet performance requirements and cost objective solutions.
