About The Position

Provides technical support and assists engineering consultants with inspections, analysis and testing with projects involving fire investigation, fire protection, and life safety assessments. Assist in fire scene documentation, component inspection, and testing and research for determining causation. Utilizes the scientific principles, engineering methods and techniques to a variety of projects. Mandatory research project must be completed by the end of the Internship and is expected to require approximately 40 hours of effort. Research topic will be mutually agreed upon between intern and supervisor.

Requirements

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Verbal and Written Communication.
  • Intermediate skills with CAD and office productivity software. Strong Mechanical Aptitude.
  • Six months working experience required.
  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Engineering. Must have completed at least Freshman year. Academic good standing at an ABET accredited engineering school.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Must be able to travel for trips of three days in length.
  • Internships with ESi are expected to be fulltime, 40-hours per week, from Monday to Friday (Business hours are from 8am-5pm).
  • If you are participating in our co-op program – we require that you are taking no more than 2 classes during your employment with ESi and are able to work a minimum of 32 hours per week.

Nice To Haves

  • MATLAB, AutoCAD, FDS
  • Machine shop and hand tools. Demonstrated familiarity with mechanical and fire protection systems.
  • Major in Mechanical Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, Materials Science, or Structural Engineering.
  • 3.30 GPA or higher, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Handling of daily administrative tasks such as updating documentation, organizing files, and preparing/participating/summarizing meeting materials/content/minutes.
  • Participate in admin and technical type meetings.
  • If not already, become proficient with internal project/filing software and specific engineering software and specific engineering software as it permits.
  • Assist and research items/topics related to project work.
  • Review, analyze, and extract data group sets.
  • Provide technical support to project managers in addition to project support and project analysis.
  • Delegate tasks accordingly with a working group.
  • If permitted, engage with clients while proficiently providing quality customer service.
  • Illustrate & present work product effectively to project manager and other team members.
