The therapist plays a crucial role in a client’s recovery journey by creating individualized treatment plans and collaborating with a team to support holistic goals. A therapist is responsible for providing individual and group therapy during the client’s mental health or substance abuse treatment. A therapist will have an assigned caseload and will be responsible for one-on-one sessions to ensure clients explore the root causes, understand patterns of behavior, and develop coping strategies. A therapist will also provide group sessions for the general census. The ultimate goal is to assist clients in recognizing their behavioral illness and to motivate clients to actively participate in their own recovery and treatment process, assisting them with learning skills, and gain knowledge to improve their lives. The therapist designs and manages all clinical aspects of the treatment program in accordance with state and JCAHO standards.
