About The Position

The therapist portion of this position provides outpatient therapy for clients ages 3 and up, the vast majority of whom are school-aged children. At the CARE House, we primarily serve clients who have been impacted by trauma, often some form of abuse. Our therapists use evidenced based treatment from Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy, to Parent Child Interaction Therapy, to Problematic Sexual Behavior – Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and many other modalities. It is important that we provide quality services; we would love a therapist who already has training in the models we use, but we are open to training the right person. Therapists at the CARE House are responsible for assessment, diagnosis, treatment, coordination of services, referrals, and termination of the clients on their caseload. Caseloads are capped for each therapists depending on various factors. The forensic interviewer side of the position interviews minors ages 3 to 18 and vulnerable adults, who are alleged victims of abuse/neglect or who have witnessed a crime. Forensic interviewers use research-based, nationally recognized protocols during the interview to assess victimization. Interviews are conducted in a manner that is legally sound and of a neutral, fact finding nature, and are coordinated to avoid duplicative interviewing. Forensic Interviewers are trained in a nationally recognized model and anyone not trained would be expected to complete training and pass testing at the next available training. The CARE House prides itself on working within a multidisciplinary team and so interviews are often conducted with members of that MDT observing. All interviews are audio and video recorded.

Requirements

Master’s Degree in Counseling, Social Work, or other related field.
Licensure as an LPC, LPCA, LMSW, or LISW-CP is required.
Individual must have the ability to be a professional, caring part of the multidisciplinary team.
Ability to build rapport and be non-judgmental with children and families.
Culturally competent and trauma informed
Comfortable with dogs (Canine Companion trained, McGuffy, on-site at Florence office)

Nice To Haves

Prior completion of a forensic interviewing training, such as Child First South Carolina
Training in evidenced based therapies such as TF-CBT, AF-CBT, CFTSI, PCIT, and PSB-CBT.
Experience working with children and families.
Experience with and/or a working knowledge of crisis intervention techniques, child abuse, child development, and the criminal justice system.

Responsibilities

Conduct forensic interviews with alleged child/adolescent victims, as requested, by referring agencies. Adult’s with a cognitive age under 18 may also be seen.
Provide evidenced based, trauma informed counseling to caseload.
Follow all Medicaid and in-house policies related to documentation (of forensic interviews and counseling services).
Maintain professional relationships with partner agencies.
Participate in case review with multidisciplinary teams.
Attend continuing education events to further interviewer & counselor skills.
Clinicians must complete CEUs in accordance with their license requirements.
Clinicians must maintain CEUs in the field of child abuse consisting of a minimum of 8 contact hours every 2 years.
Forensic Interviewers must complete a Forensic Interviewing training, such as Child First South Carolina, followed by completions of 8 hours of CEUs every 2 years and participation in a minimum of 2 structured peer reviews per year.
Attend and testify in legal proceedings as required as a forensic interviewer or counselor.
Keep up to date on current trends in therapy, trauma, forensic interviewing, and child abuse.
Adhere to the ethical standards of related field.
Work professionally with peers to meet the CARE House mission.
Provide services at CARE House Florence office and CARE House Manning office (at least 2 days per week).
Other duties as assigned.
