About The Position

Flexible Support Services are designed to assist youth between the ages of 6 and 18 and their families who live in Central MA. The overall goal is to assist children and their family members to develop skills, strategies and supports to sustain the child in the family’s natural environment and to help the child successfully function in the community. This program supports each child’s ongoing development of age-appropriate social, emotional, academic and pre-work skills. Services are highly flexible and individualized to meet the varying needs of children and their families. The Therapeutic Support Specialist partners with referred youth and their “chosen family” to develop strategies for addressing identified needs, strengthening abilities/skills that enhance their overall well-being, enhancing family cohesion and ensuring that services are choesive, integrated and clinically coherent.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree with two years of experience working with youth with serious emotional disturbance or other emotional and mental challenges, or Bachelor’s degree in a Human Services field with one year experience.
  • Valid Driver’s License and acceptable driving record.
  • Reliability, willingness to learn, and being open to new opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strengths based and resiliency building activities that support each youth. These activities include but are not limited to the following: social and recreational engagement; development and maintenance of friendships; maintaining personal boundaries; stress management, relaxation and mindfulness; daily living skills (i.e. money management, use of public transportation); secondary education/pre-vocational/career planning and preparations; strategies to prevent and address bullying of others and being bullied.
  • To collaborate and ensure the development and achievement of each youth’s treatment goals that lead to improved functioning in identified areas of their life.
  • To ensure transportation for youth and their family in a safe manner in matters related to service delivery.
  • Organize, plan, facilitate or co-facilitate flexible support groups as assigned.
