About The Position

The City of Aurora, Fox Arts Center is seeking highly skilled Part-Time, Variable Hour Non-Benefited Fox House Managers, Concessionaires and Box Office Attendants. These candidates will be the first point of contact for patrons visiting the Aurora Fox Center. This is classified as a VHNE (Variable Hour Non-Benefited Employee), where the position does not provide medical benefits. This position earns sick leave in accordance with the Healthy Families and Workplace Act.

Requirements

  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience: 3 years of customer service experience
  • Knowledge: Knowledge of basic accounting
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Skills: Skill in the use of windows-based programs
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Abilities: Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, all levels of management including executive staff, citizens, and elected officials
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor
  • Handle sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy
  • Ability to work independently, think critically, and make quick decisions as needed
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Licenses and Certifications Required: Will be required to be CPR/AED certified and trained in ServSafe alcohol training. Aurora Fox Theater will provide training for those not currently certified.

Responsibilities

  • The House Manager is responsible for opening and closing both The Fox Arts Theater main stage and Studio Theater, including the following duties:
  • Arrive 1 hour 30 minutes prior to performance
  • Upon arrival, check outside for obvious trash
  • Greet security and begin house manager checklist
  • Unlock doors, turn on indoor/outdoor lights, check restrooms/house for cleanliness and comfort
  • If time permits, assist with set up of concession area
  • Greet and do venue and ticketing walk-through with volunteer usher staff
  • Make sure playbills are stuffed and ready
  • Distribute playbills to usher stations
  • Communicate with Box Office staff and Stage manager for start of performance
  • Get house counts and special notes from box office
  • Assist with concessions sales during intermission and keep in touch with stage manager for start of Act II
  • Double count/verify concession cash
  • At the end of the show, remain in the house area until all patrons have left (lock front doors)
  • Check bathrooms and house for any problems that need to be communicated to cleaning service
  • When backstage is clear, secure all doors, close house doors, turn off lights, set alarm
  • Following intermission, assist with restock of concessions
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • The Box Office Attendant responsibilities are to greet will-call patrons as well as:
  • Process advance will call tickets and walk-up ticket sales
  • Arrive 1 hour and 30 minutes prior to performance
  • Check and clear phone messages, return reservation calls
  • Prepare tickets, cash, set-up will call and communicate any special notes to house manager
  • Greet will-call customers and single ticket buyers
  • Acknowledge subscribers and identify to House Manager any VIP patrons
  • Following intermission, reconcile cash and credit cards
  • Coordinate with House Manager to reconcile attendance
  • Assist with restocking concessions following intermission
  • Process cash for concession sales, put in safe
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • The Concessions Attendant responsibilities are to serve beverages and snacks to patrons as well as:
  • Set up concession area, double-counting starting inventory using reconciliation form
  • Brew coffee and hot water
  • Be ServSafe certified – if not, venue will provide certification opportunity
  • Monitor alcohol sales responsibly, serving beer, wine and limited specialty drinks.
  • Check ID’s for all patrons
  • Restock any necessary items after show begins to be ready for intermission sales
  • Following intermission, complete sales/inventory reconciliation sheet
  • Count and reconcile credit card and cash sales
  • After intermission, restock all inventory to opening counts
  • Wipe down, clean and organize bar area
  • Remove any empty boxes from concessions storage closet
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Candidates may be scheduled in all areas or in one area, depending on the Center's need.
  • Applicants should be prepared to fill all roles.
