The New York Times is seeking a sharp-eyed correspondent and stylish writer who can work across many coverage areas to capture the culture of Texas. You will produce lively pieces that invite readers all over the world into the region. The arts scene, the music scene, the food scene – you’ll move seamlessly from one to the other. You’ll capture how Texans live and the vibrant subcultures of the state. You’re deeply sourced with Texas’s cultural tastemakers, influencers, podcasters, chefs, designers and other creatives. You will join The Times’s new Texas hub brimming with ideas for engaging readers in a variety of formats. You have an ability to write with authority and produce journalism so delicious your competitors’ jaws drop. You are collaborative with colleagues and you embrace a range of stories and turnaround times, seeing news moments as opportunities to show off your expertise through clear and vivid writing. You are adept at shifting between news coverage and deeply reported stories, and are eager to experiment across formats while upholding the rigor and authority of The Times. This is a hybrid position based in Texas and includes some attendance in the office per your departmental guidance. This position is represented by the NewsGuild of NY.
