Raytheon is seeking a highly motivated optical engineer that can work individually or on engineering teams developing optical, radiometric, and laser calibration methods, processes, and capabilities; analyzing measurement systems and error sources; and contributing to continuous improvement of calibration processes in the Metrology Department. Works autonomously with limited oversight. Work to influence parties within and outside work areas at an operational level regarding policies, practices and procedures. Coaches and reviews the work of lower-level professionals.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience.
  • 2 years of technical/engineering experience in a design, manufacturing, and/or engineering environment.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Clearance (ATF).
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Problem solving, good oral and written communication, and ability to work well in a dynamic environment
  • Experience with interpretation of electrical schematics
  • Experience in the field of Metrology calibrations and experience with Optics, Radiometry, and Lasers
  • Hands-on optical, electrical, and mechanical aptitude
  • Basic understanding and application of ISO 17025:2017 and ANSI/NSCL Z540
  • Familiarity with software development in BASIC, LabVIEW, C, or Python
  • Basic understanding of uncertainty analysis and statistical process control
  • Basic knowledge of calibration quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Develop optical, radiometric, and laser calibration methods, processes, and capabilities
  • Provide technical support to technicians calibrating and maintaining optical, radiometric, and laser test equipment and test systems
  • Help lead collaboration efforts with engineering, operations and management to improve test equipment configuration, quality, repeatability, and measurement traceability.
  • Develop written calibration procedures, calibration laboratory methods, processes, and capabilities
  • Develop automated calibration procedures using various programing languages for measuring and test equipment.
  • Develop measurement data analysis tools and perform data analysis of optical, radiometric, and laser measurement data
  • Create uncertainty analyses for calibration procedures
