About The Position

We are seeking a Test Technician, interested in collaborating with very hardworking individuals dedicated to revolutionizing the industry! In this role, based in Rockford IL, you will conduct tests and evaluations of new and existing products and report the results according to EMERSON reporting standards. You work safely and efficiently in the test lab, communicate with other technicians, engineers, and engineering teams, and maintain a clean lab environment. You are able to work under limited supervision. You identify areas of improvement in the lab, specify new test equipment, order parts/components for test lab, and design/build/document new test equipment. To ensure the quality of the data, you will maintain equipment calibrations, follow the lab quality management system guidelines, and work in accordance with established test lab procedures and work instructions. Requirements

  • Associate degree in electrical or mechanical engineering or related field and 2+ years of relevant experience, or high school diploma and 8+ years of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of, and experience with, electrical and mechanical principles.
  • Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings and electrical schematics or wiring diagrams.
  • Demonstrable user experience with typical laboratory test equipment, such as thermocouples, loadcells, multimeters, strain gauges, power supplies, computer-based test sequencers (Programmable Logic Controllers or Software-based equivalent), data acquisition systems, pressure transducers, solenoids etc.
  • Demonstrable experience in troubleshooting and repair of mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook etc.
  • Detail-oriented, precise, meticulous.
  • Willing and able to learn new procedures, technologies, and methods.
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs. and generate the forces required to tighten or loosen bolts and fasteners .
  • Strong work ethic.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering field.
  • Experience using computer-based test control- and data acquisition software, like National Instruments LabVIEW.
  • Ability to create schematics and diagram drawings with computer programs like Visio.
  • User experience with electronics lab test equipment, e.g., oscilloscope, soldering equipment, function generators.
  • Fabricate, assemble, and test printed circuit board assemblies, wire harnesses, electronic components, and prototypes.
  • Strong practical problem-solving abilities, both as an individual as well as by engaging help from others.
  • Ability to effectively manage workload to meet deadlines and work efficiently.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and ability to effectively collaborate with others.
  • Able to effectively communicate complex information verbally as well as through written means such as Emails and test reports.

Responsibilities

  • Lab Safety, proper use of PPE, leading 5S+S and other waste elimination activities.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and bills of material.
  • Create test requests, test reports and work with PLC workflow processes for test management purposes.
  • Prepare test samples, including installing measuring equipment such as thermocouples, strain gauges, etc.
  • Preparing data acquisition equipment to record mechanical data (e.g. torque, speed, strain, force) and electrical data (e.g. voltage, current, frequency)
  • Prepare test equipment to conduct functional, operational, environmental, and life tests (e.g. dynamometers, PLC controllers, tensile testers, packaging testers).
  • Troubleshoot and repair test equipment, replace defective mechanical or electrical components.
  • Analyze test results and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Assist with product certification testing and equipment calibrations.
  • Develop and design new test equipment and procedures.
