About The Position

The Undersea Systems Division (USD) at Leidos currently has an opening for an entry level Test/Mechanical Engineer to work in our San Diego, CA office. The USD operates at the leading edge of technology by designing, demonstrating, and deploying solutions to solve complex remote sensing problems for our Department of Defense customers. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to system development and to gain experience for an individual with interest in maritime remote sensing, physics, sensors, system prototyping, algorithm and software development, statistics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. Our focus is to develop capabilities and deployable prototypes and transition those to our Defense business segment. Primary Responsibilities. Candidate will be responsible for applying sound test engineering, mechanical engineering & design principles in the development of a HWIL system containing machined, structural, sheet metal, & “commercial off the shelf” component parts. Candidate will be responsible for bill of material development, system documentation and verification and component specification for mechanical assemblies. Candidate must be able to apply sound mechanical test engineering processes, such as drawing production, configuration management, and integration and development of complex mechanical systems. Basic Qualifications. Master's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an ABET-accredited university. Candidate must have a minimum of 2+ years of combined experience in mechanical component / Hardware in the Loop testing. Proficiency in finite element analysis (SolidWorks, FEMAP, Nastran, COMSOL), Machine Learning Demonstrated experience in the following areas: Test Procedure Development, Performance and Updates Performance of System Testing Level Testing CAD based software such as SolidWorks Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplined team; able to perform complex tasks applying engineering first principles. Must have strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills. Lead testing operations, reviews, run analysis, and define hardware test plans. Requirements
