About The Position

The Test Lab Manager is responsible for independently testing design components, prototypes, and production samples to fulfill requirements of approved test requests. This position executes plans by setting up and running tests for verification products including components, batteries, and chargers.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age
  • 2-4 year engineering degree and 1 year manufacturing experience or 5 years as a manufacturing engineer technician
  • Safety & Environmental training
  • Good analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers, supervision, and management.
  • Knowledge in mechanical or electrical design, testing processes, DC circuit, data acquisition and instrumentation
  • Strong mechanical and electrical knowledge

Responsibilities

  • Performs, monitors and reports test standards for performance results.
  • With an approved test request, determines the appropriate technology and writes test plan to be followed; Prepares instrumentation, conducts pre- and post-test calibrations, prepares and programs data acquisition and instrumentation systems; Executes the test and records the data according to the test plan with no/very minimal assistance from others and ensures the integrity of the test data.
  • Assist the Director of Engineering in defining the test/inspection requirements including; test configuration, test methods and duration, instrumentation selection and accuracy and data collection methods.
  • Accurately maintains test documentation and records testing events. Test documentation may include data sheets, graphs, photographs, sketches and written descriptions of the test article, test conduct and test results; communicates the test progress and results to the proper management team members.
  • Independently creates the test plan, conclusions, recommendations and writes reports with minimal engineering review.
  • Works with the Director of Engineering to develop specifications for an acquire testing equipment including multimeters and other handheld meters, transducers, computer data acquisitions and data loggers. Ensures that equipment is calibrated and operating properly.
  • Designs and develops new test methods or techniques, including better methods for data collection, reduction, analysis and new instrumentation techniques.
  • Coordinates outside laboratory testing on materials, components, and products.
  • Keeps up to date on the latest battery technologies and product performance.
  • Communicates and works with multiple staff levels to achieve objectives.
  • Evaluates and investigates competitive product to identify potential improvements in our own products.
  • Performs SLI Sales Returns, incoming inspections, coordinates electrical testing with QC lab and executes battery teardown analysis.
  • Ability to change shift or work hours as needed.
  • Performs project development programs.
  • Works with others within the Engineering department to achieve established requirements.
  • Be familiar and compliant with the systems, procedures and documentation of the Crown Quality System and how it relates to this position and Crown quality objectives.
