The Test Instrumentation Specialist will be responsible for maintaining the readiness of emissions equipment, supporting test equipment and instrumentation for efficient operation of engine and vehicle testing in a laboratory environment. The role will include leading the programming of test cell automation systems in support of the engine and vehicle testing. The Test Instrumentation Specialist will train Lab Technicians and test computer programmers in the use and configuration of test equipment and systems. This position is in Livonia, MI. As a Test Instrumentation Specialist, you will be responsible for:

Requirements

  • Associate degree in an automotive field or equivalent work experience
  • To be a U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident allowing for International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) compliance
  • Minimum of 5 years of automotive testing experience
  • Experience with emissions, calibration, and maintenance on instrumentation
  • Must be proactive, hardworking, and resilient
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, blueprints and equipment user manuals
  • Must be proficient in the use of diagnostic tools and equipment
  • Knowledge of and ability to perform testing network maintenance, programming and software updates
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field
  • Knowledge of AVL testing equipment
  • Knowledge of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) testing methods

Responsibilities

  • Performing test cell automation system programming in support of highly technical engine and vehicle development and certification testing
  • Maintaining test cell operations, data acquisition systems, installs, programs, troubleshoots, repairs and assembles test systems, and general and specialized instrumentation
  • Maintaining and troubleshooting engine and vehicle emissions measurement systems for critical Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and California Air Resources BOARD CARB certification testing as well as general development testing
  • Integrating emissions and measurement equipment into test cell automation systems
  • Installing, operating, modifying, and troubleshooting PCs and PC networks used for test lab activities
  • Assist in evaluating and specifying new equipment; developing new technology; installs and maintains electronic engine monitoring systems
  • Maintaining parts and equipment inventories
  • Reading and interpreting electrical wiring diagrams
  • Resolving problems using solutions that involve new techniques, technologies, or concepts
  • Suggesting new process improvement
  • Interfacing with customers, suppliers, engineers, and other positions
  • Training lab technicians on emissions measurement equipment
