About The Position

The College of Veterinary Medicine is thrilled to announce an opening for a TES Inpatient Assistant - Veterinary Equine. This role involves providing essential patient care, including administering medications (IV, IM, PO, SQ), conducting hourly checks on all in-house patients, and assisting service technicians as needed. This individual will directly instruct senior veterinary students in technical aspects of patient care. This person will also monitor the welfare of University owned horses, including those enrolled in research projects. This technician will provide assistance to clinicians with procedures and receiving of emergency cases. Temporary Employment Services (TES), a unit of the Auburn University Department of Human Resources, is an in-house support center established to meet the temporary employment needs of the university. TES provides qualified and dedicated temporary employees in a wide variety of occupations to meet the staffing needs throughout the campus. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working with horses, either personally or professionally.

Responsibilities

  • Instruction of veterinary students in various aspects of equine patient exam, catheter placement, nasogastric intubation, and general horse handling
  • Assist clinicians, students, and residents with admission, patient restraint, and diagnostic procedures of equine cases admitted by the emergency service
  • Provide direct patient care, including, but not limited to physical exams, medication administration, catheter placement, nasogastric intubation, obtaining blood, fecal and urine samples, and fluid therapy
  • Maintain floor stock and cleanliness of the hospital by restocking and cleaning ICU, Isolation, main treatment areas and nurses' stations in equine barns.
