About The Position

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic is responsible for performing preventive maintenance, repairs, inspections, and diagnostics on a variety of heavy equipment to ensure optimal functionality and safety. Equipment includes but is not limited to cranes, excavators, dozers, forklifts, telehandlers, air compressors, light towers, front-wheel loaders, UTVs, and trucks (½ ton and larger). This position requires effective communication, adherence to safety protocols, and timely completion of maintenance tasks to minimize operational downtime.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED required.
10+ years of experience and/or relevant certifications in heavy equipment maintenance and repair.
Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
Proficient in reading and interpreting parts manuals, drawings, diagrams, and schematics.
Familiarity with Lock Out Tag Out procedures, Safety Data Sheets, and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
Must have or obtain a TWIC card.
Valid U.S. driver's license required.
Must pass all pre-employment testing, including drug screening, physical examination, and background check.

Nice To Haves

Technical certifications in heavy equipment maintenance are a plus.

Responsibilities

Perform scheduled preventive maintenance to ensure all equipment is functioning optimally.
Inspect equipment usage and maintenance checklists periodically to identify potential issues.
Diagnose, troubleshoot, and correct equipment deficiencies using proper techniques.
Generate parts requisitions for necessary repairs.
Work on systems such as power and drive trains, electrical, HVAC, fuel, emissions, steering, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
Remove, repair, or replace parts, major assemblies, subassemblies, and components as needed.
Conduct test drives and make adjustments to controls and systems to verify performance.
Provide recommendations to prevent equipment breakdowns and improve system reliability.
Perform adjustments and alignments, including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, brakes, and traction units.
Ensure compliance with engine, safety, and combustion control standards during testing.
Maintain detailed equipment records, annotating services and repairs on work orders.
Adhere to Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) procedures and safety protocols.
Participate in all scheduled Safety and Health Training programs.
Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintain awareness of Safety Data Sheets.
Maintain effective communication with team members to coordinate maintenance and repair activities.
Attend and actively participate in daily, weekly, and monthly meetings or standdowns.
Assist other departments as needed and contribute to cross-functional teamwork.
Participate in supervisor training and skill development opportunities.
Assist in other areas of business as required.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
