The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) at Rutgers is a leading engineering program with state-of-the-art laboratories and close relations with local industry. The department has more than 40 full-time faculty with more than 1,100 undergraduate students in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, and Packaging Engineering and more than 200 graduate students. The department is home to the New Jersey Advanced Manufacturing Initiative that engages with industry on AI, advanced manufacturing, and workforce development. Other centers of research excellence include the Center for Advanced Energy Systems and the Emil Buehler Aerospace Lab. Energy Systems. Preferred applications include wind, solar, nuclear, renewable and sustainable power supply. Robotics. Preference will be given to applications in manufacturing, cybersecurity, infrastructure and healthcare. Candidates with relevant expertise in aerospace sciences, aircraft and spacecraft structures, robotics, advanced manufacturing, renewable energy, wind turbines, solar power, computational and structural mechanics, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, machine learning, data-driven optimization, complex systems modeling, and applications are especially encouraged to apply. Synergies with one or more department strengths in Aerospace, Hypersonics, Energy, Controls, Robotics and Mechatronics, Advanced Manufacturing and Materials will be viewed positively. Successful candidates will be expected to teach graduate and undergraduate courses in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering; develop a nationally recognized and externally funded scholarly research program.
