About The Position

The Tenant Resource Counselor is an on-site position in Supportive Housing sites. These sites are ones where BSHC has contracted with housing authorities or housing management organizations to provide resident services to all residents to help them age in place and make lifestyle changes that improve the quality of their lives. The TRC will support the ability of all tenants to continue to live safely and appropriately where they are, facilitate linkages and referrals to all levels of community-based services, and monitor delivery of services. The TRC assists residents with appointments, community referrals, coordinating services with external agencies, arranging transportation and translation services and is responsible for arranging and coordinating all supportive housing program activities. The TRC works closely with a building's Property Manager and/or Resident Services Coordinator to identify residents who might be in need of Home Care or other services, and provides assistance with tenancy issues, as appropriate, to help avoid eviction. The incumbent is responsible for both identifying issues that arise in a building and effectively working with all partners. The TRC will work with all residents, regardless of age, and coordinate activities and services for those whose ability to continue to live independently have been compromised by frailties and impairments. The TRC will be solely based in select buildings that Boston Senior Home Care has partnered with. The Tenant Resource Councilor's tasks are consistent with the above job description. The site(s) are assigned by the Program Manager/Director.

Requirements

  • Must possess an ability to exercise appropriate judgment with tact and diplomacy both under normal and stressful situations.
  • Must be able to maintain appropriate composure when faced with escalated situations and be able to successfully exercise conflict management skills effectively.
  • Must demonstrate interpersonal flexibility, initiative, teamwork, and a customer service attitude as well as excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Must possess solid organizational skills
  • Must have demonstrated computer experience, and be able to perform basic data entry and effectively utilize MS Office Suite.
  • BS or BA degree required in sociology, social work, gerontology or related field.
  • Six months or more years of experience in elder care case management required.
  • Fluent in speaking, and writing Chinese (Mandarin and/or Cantonese).
  • Must be able to work in the United States
  • Must be able to carry 15 to 20 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a resource person for the assigned Supportive Housing building(s) by providing knowledge on consumer and government resources, etc. to all residents while also promoting self-sufficiency and preserving dignity.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with on-site Supportive Housing partners including, but not limited to, property manager, assistant manager and maintenance.
  • Be trained as a leader in Evidence-Based Workshops and co-lead trainings for residents in Supportive Housing buildings.
  • Disseminate information to all residents by creating and maintaining monthly calendar of events and newsletter, and ensure information is offered in languages that target the primary cultural groups in the building.
  • Maintain a Supportive Housing office within the assigned building(s) that ensures the security of confidential information.
  • TRC will collect, report, maintain and analyze statistical information accurately and timely for both internal BSHC use and partners/funders requirements. Analyze and utilize outcomes data as the basis for continuous program improvement.
  • Develop and implement outreach activities to identify residents who are in crisis (eviction, exploitation) and who may require intervention through community based referrals.
  • Plan and direct on- and off-site creative social activities, workshops and educational programs. Examples include films, arts and crafts, games, outings and wellness activities. Develop and implement procedures for engaging consumers in planning, implementing, leading and participating in activities.
  • Document resident interactions and maintain resident files in accordance with BSCH standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Director of Community Housing.
