About The Position

The major goals of Dr. Ruisheng Liu’s center are to understand the mechanisms and identify therapeutic targets for the development of hypertension and organ injuries after solid organ transplantation. The research programs of the Liu lab are funded by the National Institutes of Health. We are looking for highly motivated, enthusiastic, hardworking, detail-oriented, and collaborative applicants who can efficiently work in a fast-paced environment. High level of independence, the ability to think critically and write academically are expected. Incumbent in this position will report to Dr. Ruisheng Liu. The Research Technician will be responsible for conducting research and/or participating in research for mechanisms for hypertension and organ injury. Work requires practical and basic theoretical knowledge to perform these techniques and to modify them as needed, in consultation with the principal investigator or designee. Competency in standard methods of analysis of the results is expected. Provides data or figures of publication quality for manuscripts or grants.

Requirements

  • This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and three years of laboratory or research experience.
  • College coursework in a natural or physical science may be substituted for the required experience on a year for year basis.
  • Four years of direct experience for a bachelor’s degree.
  • Senate Bill 1310- The Florida Senate (https://www.flsenate.gov/Session/Bill/2023/1310) is conditional upon meeting all employment eligibility requirements in the U.S.
  • Minimum Qualifications that require a high school diploma are exempt from SB 1310.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in natural, physical, or medical science.
  • Experience in organ injury and rodent surgery is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and conducts laboratory research protocols in cell and molecular biology and other related biological science disciplines under the leadership of the PI/supervisor.
  • Must be proficient in standard laboratory techniques including PCR, mammalian tissue culture, DNA and protein electrophoresis, immunoblotting and immunofluorescence microscopy, molecular cloning.
  • We utilize rodents as research models for human disease. Therefore, basic experience in animal handling is required, including blood sampling, post-mortem tissue isolation and compound administration by I.P. and I.V. injection, mouse husbandry and animal microsurgeries such as vessel cannulation, renal ischemia reperfusion injury induction, radio-transmitter implantation are preferred.
  • Maintains logs and records of experiments and observations, findings and results for use in presentations and publications.
  • Assists other researchers in the laboratory by conducting experiments.
  • Contributes to research supply purchasing, financial management and general lab maintenance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
