About The Position

The Logistics Specialist will support case management services to eligible newcomers through NSC’s Newcomer Support Program (a Preferred Communities GAPS program) and Program of Initial Resettlement (PIR, or refugee resettlement), and will build agency capacity to serve newcomers by supporting NSC’s Food Access and In-Kind programming. The Logistics Specialist will provide programmatic support (such as client accompaniment, case aide services, logistics support and outreach) for the PC GAPS program, including referrals and connections to public benefit systems, school enrollment, healthcare, and other supportive services to enrolled clients for the 3-month service period. For the PIR program, the Logistics Specialist will similarly provide programmatic support, with specific duties to include transportation orientation, home set ups, utility navigation support, accompaniments and cultural orientation, among other duties. Eligible clients include refugees, asylees, Ukrainian Humanitarian Parolees, Cuban/Haitian Entrants, or immigrants with other Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR)-eligible status. The Logistics Specialist will provide NSC’s clients with culturally and linguistically appropriate services. The Logistics Specialist will support the Food Access and In-Kind programming by picking up food orders/donations and other in-kind donations in the community, stocking the pantry along with a group of volunteers, serving client visitors to the pantry as needed, and receiving, organizing and storing in-kind donations. The Logistics Specialist will assist the Senior Manager of Refugee Services with special distribution events (such as fans and backpacks) for clients. Since most job duties take place at the NSC office or in the field, this position is required to be in-person 4 days a week, with one remote workday per week. The Logistics Specialist position has internal contacts with the entire staff and external contact with clients, representatives of social services agencies and medical providers, and the community. This position has access to sensitive NSC and client information and is expected to handle such information with integrity and professionalism. The Logistics Specialist will report directly to the Senior Manager of Refugee Services and will participate in all NSP team and department activities as necessary.

1+ years of logistics and/or case management experience or experience working within the refugee and immigrant community required.
High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
Valid driver’s license and reliable access to a vehicle are required.

Nice To Haves

Bilingual skills in English and one of the following preferred: Dari, Pashto, Ukrainian or Haitian Creole.
BSW or Undergraduate Degree in a related field or Equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

Support NSP Case Managers with providing services to enrolled clients. Activities include, but are not limited to: referral and connection to public benefits systems, school enrollment, healthcare coordination, application for state IDs and employment documents, especially accompanying clients to the relevant offices to complete these services as needed.
Support NSP Case Managers with client intake meetings and other client meetings, including home visits and client accompaniments on an as-needed basis.
Demonstrate a person-centered and culturally responsive approach in working with households by respecting their self-determination and autonomy.
Strongly adhere to Trauma Informed Care, Empowerment Approach, and Assertive Engagement principles.
Build trust in client relationships to foster engagement in the work towards their self-sufficiency.
Conduct occasional outreach and awareness raising through participation in external events and distribution of materials, as needed.
Support provision of PIR case management to clients. Activities include, but are not limited to: utility account set-up, home set-up, applying for financial assistance programs and accompanying clients to the relevant offices to complete core services.
Document case management support activities in case notes or other documentation in a timely manner, as required by program funders.
Pick up orders or donations at locations such as grocery stores, other non-profit organizations, mass distribution events.
Receive in-kind donations from donors at the NSC office. Sort, organize and store donations.
Along with the Food Access Coordinator and a small group of community volunteers, receive food pantry deliveries on Tuesday mornings and stock NSC’s on-site food pantry for the week.
Serve client visitors in the food pantry on an occasional basis, as determined by Food Access staff’s schedules. Re-stock the food pantry throughout the week as needed.
